what are good dog relationship forming games?
I just got a 10 week old puppy and I want to know what are some good games/activities we can do so he will warm up a little more to me? Thanks for all the replies!
Some of my favorites:
Hand touch – Have some good, small treats (like bits of cheese or hot dog) at the ready. Rub a treat on one hand, to get the scent on it. Hold your hand palm-up to your pup. When he touches it with his nose, say “touch!” and feed him a treat with your other hand. Once your puppy has learned the touch command, this a great game to play in scary/distracting situations. It gives your puppy something fun and harmless to focus on.
Hide and Seek – Have someone gently restrain the pup while you run off to hide and call his name. When he gets to you, praise him and give him treats or a toy. When you first play this, don’t hide yourself too well or he might get discouraged. As he gets better at the game you can go farther away and make it harder for him to find you.
Pass the Puppy – get your friends/family members involved with this one. Give everyone a handful of treats and have them sit in a big circle. Everyone takes turns calling the puppy to them, feeding him treats and playing with him. (Just make sure he doesn’t get overwhelmed. if he seems too nervous, take a break or play again with a smaller group)
