Puppy Sleeps A Lot
Productive Puppy House Training
Having a new puppy at home means that you need to develop puppy house training rules so that the little pup won’t mess up your house. House training must be worked through by every new puppy and its owners. Some puppies learn the process very quickly, while some need more time to catch on. Try not to get flustered when you are going through the first trials of puppy training. Keep being consistent, loving, and patient and your puppy will learn what you want.
In the Puppy’s Mind
Knowing how your puppy’s mind works can help a lot in effective puppy house training. You must realize that the meaning of being clean doesn’t necessarily mean the same thing to you and to your puppy. In your opinion, your puppy should go to the yard if he needs to go to the bathroom, however, your puppy is only worried about going to the bathroom when nature calls, wherever that may be. Your puppy is only concerned with nature’s basic safety and health rule which is to stay away from his bed or food when going to the toilet. From your puppy’s point of view, a place away from his food and bed could be anywhere from behind the sofa up to the bedroom floor. You must teach your dog that places that may be acceptable to him are not necessarily acceptable to you, you must lead him to the spot that you have chosen for him.
Anticipating the Signs
During the first couple of weeks of a puppy, the early warning signals aren’t always easy to read, so you need to find a way to understand this as soon as possible. As soon as possible, you should choose a spot in the area where the puppy is plays, eats or usually sleeps. It is very rewarding to be able to anticipate when your puppy needs to go outside. Generally, puppies are required to go as soon as they wake up, after drinking or eating, when they are excited, after playing, or at least once every waking hour!
You must familiarize yourself with your puppy’s body language and learn to see the indicators that tell you it’s time for him to “go”. Common signs are sniffing around in a persistent manner, circling around a single spot, or holding his tail high. When this happens, all you have to do is get your pup and bring him or her to the appointed toilet area. By doing so, you are well on your way to completing your puppy house training.
Seeing family members and visitors, or being excited in general, can still make dogs, even those that have had dog training, have small accidents. This type of response is natural and is called submissive urination. You shouldn’t treat this differently from regular house training. You should never go as far as punishing you dog, even if other accidents occur. Punishing a house training pup will only lead to confusion and more make the puppy feel the need to hide when it relieves itself.
Do not yell at your dog, instead work things out until this habit is broken this when accidents like this happen during periods of high excitement. It is best to try to greet new people while you are both still outside and the setting is low key. Greet your dog gently in order to build up its confidence. If they do have an accident, clean it up and don’t make any issue out of it. Soon your dog will no longer be having these accidents and you’ll be congratulating yourself for having successfully completed another round of puppy house training.
