Puppy Mill Rescue Chicago

Do you think that dogs understand us?
I was view this show on Chicago public access television , and , there was this one lady (Jana Kohl ) on with this dog named “BABY” she had rescued from a “Puppy Mill”, and this dog had suffered soo much at the hands of her abusers. But, anyhow, this dog has become a traveling spokesperson for the fight against animal-cruelty.
This one musician appeared on this show with Jana Kohl and the dog “Baby” and he wrote a series of songs in honor of this dog, and he song and played his guitar while the dog listened— He serenaded the dog– As I watched this show and performance,it seemed to me that the dog “BABY” seemed to know that this song was especially for her(BABY)
My question is: DO YOU THINK DOGS UNDERSTAND US?????

Do you think that dogs understand us?
I think they do in their own way. I know my dog understands way more than any dog I ever owned or worked with before him. But I think each dog has their own understanding and way of doing so. It is actually been crucial to their survial. The have been several studies done on dogs and that they are the ONLY species that pay attention to our eyes. No other animal does. The dogs have learned that where we are looking is where we are paying attention to. The the study also showed that dogs are one of the few species that will follow our “hints”. They took several items and covered them up. The only way the animals could find them is by a human pointing to the correct one. The dogs took the cue yet monkeys did not. I think dogs undertand us better than any other species on this planet.
There was also this other case study with a rescued Doberman. This dog actually took his toys and arranged them to have meaning. Like he would match all his monkeys together, or all his frogs etc. And then he would arrange them so they were hugging to holding etc. They actually had researchers watching and recording to make sure his ownes were not doing it. It was amazing, but they believe the dog was showing things that he lost or was missing or that he now found.
I know even with my dog he has saved my life, he will do exactly what I need it when I need it. Like if I am down he will snuggle or if I am crying he will actually dog the silliest things to make me laugh. I know they understand way more than many give them credit for, but I also think they undertand in their own special ways.
