Puppy Bowl 2011
Puppy Bowl VII Provides Viewers A Feel-good Pre-game Option
Many Super Bowl pre-game shows are canines, but not the Puppy Bowl. ”Puppy Bowl VII” on Animal Planet will appeal to millions of viewers Sunday as the ex-athletes on the Super Bowl pre-game shows jabber away for hours. Now in its 7th year, the Puppy Bowl is a media occasion that promotes animal adoption featuring a lineup of puppies selected from shelters across the United States. This helps the animal shelters avoid having to take out short term installment loans to support the over-crowding in the animal shelters.
Getting animals adopted with the Puppy Bowl
“Puppy Bowl VII” airs on Animal Planet Sunday from 3-5 p.m. EST. In order to fill time while audiences were all tuning in to Super Bowl pre-game hype, the Puppy Bowl was created. The public response was unexpected, and Puppy Bowl has become a successful franchise viewed by more than 8.6 million people. There are other good things the Puppy Bowl does. The Animal Planet ratings aren’t the only things boosted. Public awareness is increased of pet shelters and adopting pets through the show. There have been over 250 animals adopted since 2004. These are just the ones the Puppy Bowl caused to get adopted too.
All about the Puppy Bowl action
In the Puppy Bowl, puppies wrestle with each other in a stadium setting, complete with gridiron and grandstands. Touchdowns are made by the puppies with a chew toy. A goal line is created to do this. Andrew Schechter is the referee that has a pooper scooper to help. He gets to call the game. He makes sure it is clean. This year there is a new feature added to the “Puppy Bowl VII.” The beagle’s head can have a puppy cam on it to catch the activity close up. A blimp piloted by hamsters provides overhead shots. The chicks cheerleading on the sidelines are actually chickens, flapping and clucking for their team. There is even a half time show. It involves kittens going through the field with lights and streamers everywhere.

The “Puppy Bowl VII” had 58 pups that made the cut. Pictures of pups next to soda cans for actual size are sent by pet shelters. They’re all puppies. They have to be between 7 and 16 weeks old. The puppy bowl pups get adopted pretty fast. Since “Puppy Bowl VII” airs way after it is taped in October, several have already found homes. Animal Planet can be repeating the show a few times during the Super Bowl. Petfinder.com is where you are able to go to find more information on adopting pets.
