german shepherd x rottweiler
What are some head strong games to play!?

Ok sooo I got a head strong dog(german shepherd/Rottweiler/pit bull/timber wolf mix! So what are some hard core games and toys for my dog! ANSWER PLEASE THIS DOG RIPES STUFFED ANIMALS SO X THAT OF LIST LOL!!!!!!! :)

Destructive dogs aren’t bad dogs – they just need jobs.

You could make a makeshift agility course for your dog and start him on that kind of training – it requires physical exertion, mental involvement, and obedience (which is key with such a big, strong breed mix – I’m interested to know where the timber wolf came from…). Or better yet, find a public agility training facility, or maybe you know someone who has a course…

You could try your hand at training him to track things, or search for hidden objects (like a police dog).

The key is mental involvement, though, whatever you decide to do – my guess is the dog has pretty boundless energy. With a dog like that, he won’t get tired unless his brain is working as hard as his legs are.

As much energy as he probably has, you could probably teach him some pretty cool tricks. But make sure you’ve got the basic “sit” “down” and “stay”, and make sure you’ve got good recall (comes when name is called). If you start them running around w/o good recall, they start having fun without you and then don’t come back when you call them.

Also, no matter how many people tell you to, don’t play tug-of-war with a dog like that – they’re probably stronger than you and will win almost every time, and it gets to be a dominance game, and you don’t want the dog thinking he’s alpha over you. That’s the other key with big dogs – human=pack leader (thank you, Ceasar Milan)

“Magoo was a big, playful Labrador retriever who usually got himself into sticky situations…”

So begins a story within the latest report from the ASPCA on foods that may well be toxic to dogs. It turns out that Magoo got into the pantry and snagged himself about a pound of raisins. He ate the entire thing, of course.

But they do inform us that as little as a handful of raisins can impair a dogs wellness and has been fatal for some. Ditto for the grape.

Who Knew?

As a dog owner, I in no way believed to obtain dog wellness insurance until I enrolled my dog in Running Paws, a cageless doggy day care in New York City.

They had been beneficial about waiting their turn for whatever we left on our plates, and we weren’t too concerned about providing them “people food”. It by no means crossed our minds that our dogs well being could be affected by some measly table scraps. What was protected for us, we figured, was secure for our pets.

What’s more, whenever I ate grapes, I liked to give a single or two to our German Shepherd “Tiffany”. The grapes continually popped out of her mouth when she tried to bite into them and Tiffany, ever the beneficial sport, refused to give up until she’d squashed each a single into submission. It guaranteed not less than 60 seconds of harmless fun.

Tiffany was also fond of chewing gum (she chewed it — wrapper and all — but did not swallow it!) We had the sugarless kind, which is frequently sweetened nowadays with xylitol.

Little did I know that I could have been poisoning our family members pet! (More on xylitol below).

Why are grapes harmful?

When I initial enrolled Jack, I was encouraged by Running Paws to obtain pet health insurance. ” Two weeks later, I understood why.

As far as grapes and raisins go, nobody is confident why they’re harmful. It’s been confirmed that even grapes grown without having fertilizers or pesticides may be toxic to dogs. But not to just about every dog, and not each time. It’s also not identified no matter if tiny quantities eaten over a extended time period could have a cumulative effect.

What we do know is that the finish outcome in nearly all reported cases of grape or raisin toxicity is acute kidney failure. (The term “acute” indicates that the situation is severe and comes on quickly.) The dog ultimately cannot produce urine, which means they can’t filter toxins out of their systems — a process vital to life.

During the twelve-month period in which the effects of grapes were studied, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center handled 140 cases involving 1 or more dogs. Over a third of the dogs developed symptoms ranging from vomiting to kidney failure, and seven dogs died. The ASPCA based their study on reported cases, so naturally there may be cases where a dogs well being is totally unaffected by consuming grapes. But until they know all of the facts, the Society advises against feeding pets grapes or raisins in any amount.

An ounce of prevention

So, your dog just scored himself a large box of raisins. What’s a pet owner to do?

Vomiting is also the initial sign that your dog is in trouble, so skip ideal to the activated charcoal if vomiting has already occurred. (In a pinch you may make your very own activated charcoal by charring a piece of toast until it is blackened and crumbles easily.) Then call your vet suitable away.

Jack loves to play rough. It turned out, Jack decided to roughhouse having a Rottweiler. Jack does not see himself as a 13 pound dog. He clearly believes he’s equal to a Rottweiler – in size and strength.

Without dog insurance, a straightforward trip to the vet costs me $95 – and that’s just for the initial exam. I made the decision not to acquire insurance and nurse his wounds with some antiseptic based on my dog wellness guide I purchased.

When My Dog Got Pneumonia – It Cost A Fortune

Can’t attain the vet?

The vet will hold your dog on intravenous fluids for not less than 48 hours and monitor blood chemistry daily. Normal blood work following three days normally means your dog is within the clear.

Like children, dogs (and other pets) have a knack for receiving into mischief when we’re not looking.

It’s Not Just the Grapes…

Several months later, Jack got sick. I had no notion what was incorrect with him. All I know is that I took him towards the dog run that day. He was his usual rambunctious self – frolicking with the large dogs and having the time of his life. When we came home, I noticed he was shivering. I knew one thing was wrong.

There are other foods your dog will need to be kept away from, and some of them may surprise you.

Here are some other foods which can place a dogs wellness in harms way:

Chocolate

Like it your not, your dog.

I rushed to my vet to determine her on an emergency basis. I then went to AMC. They took Jack’s temperature and informed me that he was indeed ill. However, without having any sort of pet insurance at a minimum, the exam would price me $500.

Different varieties of chocolate have varying effects on dogs health. Dark chocolate has the largest theobromine, coming in at a whopping 450mg (compared to 1mg for white chocolate).
