German Shepherd Puppy Training
Where in Alabama can I have a German Shepherd puppy trained to be a seeing eye dog?
1. The Seeing Eye is in New Jersey. They have no branches in Alabama.
2. Guide dog programs, including the Seeing Eye, do not train dogs already owned by their clients. They have their own dogs they breed and train.
So basically the answer is: you don’t. If, however you want a German Shepherd guide dog, and qualify of course, you can apply at the Seeing Eye. They do have GSD guides as well as Labradors, Goldens and Lab/Golden crosses. Their waiting list is currently at about 4 months. That’s far less than the 18-24 months it would take to train a puppy from scratch anyway. Cost: $150, compared to around $30,000 to hire a private trainer to do the training. So, yeah, that’s the way to go.
