German Shepherd Hip Dysplasia

My dog has Hip Dysplasia, what should I do about…?
My almost 11 year old Husky/German Shepherd has hip dysplaisa we believe because I took her to the dog park last saturday and for the rest of the night and next 2 days she had a really hard time getting up on her hind legs. She is walking better now – it has been 4 days.
Should I bring her again this weekend? I thought maybe the exercise would be good for her despite her hip dysplasia. She enjoyed it very much and it was her first time ever going to a dog park. Please help! I love her and don’t want to bring her again if it will be bad for her legs.
We raised, showed and bred Rottweilers for 25 years.
HD.
As you may be aware some people have a higher tolerance for pain than others. What I might consider excruciating pain, you might not consider a problem. The same holds true for dogs.
Secondly. There are various levels of hip dysplasia. The minor categories are so mild that without an x-ray you’d never know that the dog had HD. The worse cases that I’ve seen have the femoral head totally out of the hip socket.
For the worse end of the spectrum, I’ve never seen a dog that didn’t have to have surgery. As I said, with the mild end, you might never know. Out of our 11 Rottweilers we had two that were dysplastic. Neither one needed surgery or anything more than a aspirin from time to time.
With a dog that’s over 11, you are talking about a dog that IS old. Arthritis, etc. would be more likely. Additionally, if it was HD, it wouldn’t go away like you describe.
My guess is that you over did it with your dog. Glucosamine can be used for dogs. ONE tablet per day. It takes about a month for it to kick in.
You can also use ONE aspirin from time to time. Do NOT use anything else. Some pain relievers are toxic to dogs.
Good luck with your buddy.
By the way. HD or not, make sure that your dog isn’t overweight.

Cocker Spaniel
The English Cocker, far more generally referred to as just a Cocker Spaniel, is a medium sized dog that is well know for their prolonged droopy ears and their almond shaped eyes. They have silky hair that’s slightly wavy and can come in a large verity of colors, from particolors, tricolors, roam, and reliable colours (on a stable colored pet a modest white mark around the chest may be the only discoloration allowable). They ought to have a defined stop, and a bright, intelligent expression.
The teeth meet inside a scissor bite. The eyes are round, with the lids getting marginally almond in shape. A function of this dog is their long, low set ears and these are heavily feathered. The legs are straight. The dog’s height is 15 ½ inches using the bitches being 14 ½ inches. The weight is 15- 30 pounds.
The American Cocker Spaniel puppy includes a great silky coat that may be flat, or may be a bit wavy. The body fur is medium in length and shorter for the head. There is feathering on the chest, ears, tummy and legs. The coat comes in reliable colour, all colours are accepted. Then you are able to have parti-coloured, merle, black and tan point’s solid colour with tan points. The working class field pet have somewhat shorter coats.
One from the oldest spaniel breeds, the Cocker Spaniel may be traced back again to 14th century Spain, even so at this time all spaniels had been categorized as currently being the same, then depending on their dimension employed to either spring game or flush out woodcock. It was these differences that led on the official separation with the breed into the Springer Spaniels, along with the Cocker Spaniels in 1892, they also split the general ’spaniel’ breed into other separate breeds that we know today.
Temperament. The Cocker Spaniel is an intelligent and sturdy dog; they may be loving, affectionate and outstanding with children.
Health Issues. The most prevalent medical problems they will have difficulties with are skin conditions, cataracts, deafness (6%), heart murmurs, and benign tumors. Due to their prolonged ears they can also be prone to a great deal of ear infections and as with a great deal of canines they can also have complications with hip dysplasia. Studies have shown that ‘Rage Syndrome’ happens most typically inside the darker reliable colored Cocker Spaniels, this really is thought to be purely due to the fact these are the canines most normally bred for the exhibit ring, and not truly a direct link for the color itself.
