Dog Training Whistle
I just bought a dog whistle today. Do I have to tune it when my dog is sleeping?
I just bought a dog whistle today to train our family dog to stop barking. It says to tune it when the dog is sleeping but my dog usually never sleeps and gets up real fast. Could I try tuning it when hes awake? Or will I hurt him?
It’s possible to do with him awake but it’s best to do when your dog sleeps. Your dog doesn’t “never sleep.” All living things sleep. Keep the whistle in your pocket and pull it out for tuning when your dog lies down for a nap.
The whistle emits a sound at a frequency you can’t hear but you need to make sure your dog CAN hear it. All you should hear is air rushing through the whistle.
Adjust the whistle to your own dog. Even dogs can’t hear all frequencies. Wait until he is asleep and gently blow on the whistle. Your whistle has a nut and screw that adjust the frequency when turned. Continue testing until your dog perks up. You will then know you have reached a frequency he can hear.
