So if you’re looking for a small dog for a family pet, without worrying the dog will constantly snap at kids, then Havanese puppies are for you.
Some tips on identifying a Havanese
The Havanese belongs to a today dog group, according to both the Kennel Association and the American Kennel Association. Upon reaching adulthood, this breed should be weighing around seven to thirteen pounds. The Havanese puppy has a noticeably shorter coat when compared with an adult’s. Adult Havanese have coats reaching from six to eight inches long. The coat of the puppy, which is silky, comes is either wavy or curly, with colors ranging from parti, white, blue, silver, cream, gold, black, and chocolate. Don’t ne misled by the usual impression, that this breed’s coat is warm – it’s really its protection from overheating and against the sun.
Training your Havanese
You’ll find that Havanese pups are very affectionate, playful, smart, and friendly. So this means, compared to other toy dog breeds, that training it will not be difficult. It’s often best to allow socialization for your pups at an early age, and for them to start being aware of boundaries.
Feeding the Havanese
You should get your liter of Havanese pups from a reputable breeder, as it’s very hard to find healthy pups with documented breeding info at dog shelters. If so, simply find out about the food the pups received and continue giving the same food. These pups, as is characteristic of their breed, have very sensitive stomachs. So continuing the same food type and feeding frequency makes sense. Look for soft stool from your pups in case you have to feed them unfamiliar food; the soft stools indicate their stomachs are having a hard time adapting to the new food. When they get fed too many treats, they may also exhibit soft stools. So that’s it, feed your Havanese pups three times a day until they reach six months of age, and then feed them two times a day.
The Havanese and their health problems.
For the most part, this breed is healthy, comparatively; but there some hereditary and genetic conditions that may manifest surface. These include chondrodysplasia, cataracts, hip dysplasia, cherry eye, slipped kneecaps, deafness, and liver shunts. Your vet can check for these conditions when you take your pups for scheduled check ups or vaccination sessions.

my 3 month old puppy’s stool is almost black in color and a little runny. will he be o.k. or do i need vet ?
My advice to you is that you take your puppy to a vet as soon as possible!
Black, loose stool is not good. It’s bleeding internally. Possible causes can be infestation of hooks and/or whips worms, which can be fatal for a puppy, or a bleeding ulcer.
Look at the puppy’s gums, is they’re pale pink, it’ll confirm the bleeding.
Hooks and whips are blood suckers. The pup can get very anemic from them, and die.
Get it checked out, it’ll easy your mind, and could possibly save your pup’s life.
